It’s that time of year again… the deckchairs and director’s chairs are back outside the front of the shop and Ian is back in his workshop making your bespoke chairs for you! We’ve had a few questions about them so thought we’d share the answers for you here…
- How does your bespoke deckchair and director’s chairs service work? It’s simple really - you choose a stripy fabric from our collection of The Stripes Company Deckchair Fabrics and we make up your chair/s for you! If you’re local to our shop in Rye then we can arrange for you to collect them or for us to deliver them to you. If you’re further afield, we can arrange for DPD to deliver them to you for an extra cost.
- What frames do you use? Our deckchair frames are made from high quality beech hardwood and are built to last. Our director’s chair frames are all slightly different as we refurbish existing frames to give them a second lease of life.

What fabrics do you use? We use The Stripes Company Deckchair Canvas for all of our chairs. This is high quality, traditional robust woven 100% cotton and is built for purpose. There is a whole range of gorgeous colours and stripes - we have swatches available in the shop but we’re always happy to discuss over email or phone too.
- How much do they cost? The cost of one of our bespoke deckchairs is £135. For the Director’s Chairs, it is dependent on whether you prefer a fixed back chair (£85) or a reclining back chair (£115) but we can discuss this with you.
- How long does it take? This is dependent on the fabric you choose and whether we have it in stock already but usually we can turn the chairs around in less than a week. If you would like to order them for a specific date (e.g. a birthday or special occasion), then please let us know and we will always do our best to make it work!
- How do I order? You can order your deckchairs directly on our website here by selecting the fabric you’d like and processing the order as usual or you can get in contact with us by email or by popping into the shop if you’d prefer. As our Director’s Chair frames are all refurbished, each one is slightly different so you will need to request a quote here and we will get in contact with you.
- Are you able to make replacement covers for my director’s chair or deckchair? Yes, we can make replacement covers for your director’s chair or attach a new sling to your deckchair for you. For more information please pop into the shop or contact us using the details below and we can discuss this further.
